In Landscapes of Becoming, Jan Christiaan van Ruyven explores colour as a living force rather than a descriptive element. His paintings do not depict landscapes, but evoke them — through atmosphere, rhythm and intuitive movement. Living in the French countryside, his work has shifted from structured compositions toward a more open, abstract language where colour creates space and emotion.

Each painting unfolds as a sensory experience, rooted in memory and imagination, yet deeply connected to nature. Rather than explaining the world, Van Ruyven allows it to emerge — layer by layer, gesture by gesture. Landscapes of Becoming invites the viewer to slow down and enter a landscape that is always in motion.
